Embodiment of Memory and Time in present Time- Redfern Street
Lived in home on Redfern Street with my parents and sister who was younger when I was age 2-5 years old. Walked up and down the street, not sure exactly where home is. Memory of picket fence, looking through fence, not allowed to play on the street as other children playing on the road, feeling restricted. Children came to talk with me and said they would play with me if I gave them money. So of course ran into house asked Mom for money and life lesson learned they are not your friends if they will only play with you if you give them money.
Did photography, tracings of trees, fenceposts, and community cylinder. Walked up and down the street, crossed the street back and forth. Some memories came of visiting neighbour, being inside the house, walking to park and visiting Auntie and cousins. Sense of time compressed and fleeting as my smother and Aunite died within 3 months of each other. Are there traces left behind physically or energetically? Collected tracings of picket fences, tree rubbings, walked to park at end of the street(RedFern Park). Decided I wanted to do Charcoal Drawings and photographs. Saw community metal cylinder with posters attached, drawn to words and images. Started to rub words “ Reserve Neighbourhood, kept doing rubbings with soft graphite. This neighbourhood had a lively sense of activity with the most wonderful lending book box, children playing and families and individuals walked by as I did the rubbings. Newer updated houses with older houses.
